A message from the CYO Moderator


As we end 2011 and start a new year of CYO activity, I just wanted to take a few moments and give thanks for the volunteers who make our basketball/cheerleading program so wonderful for the youth of our community. This year things got off to a late start because the gym was being used as a much needed relief center for flood victims. Now, thanks to Joseph Robinson, our varsity basketball coach who led the team to last year's championship title, this year's squad has a 4-0 start! Luke Daly, a varsity team veteran, has a young, enthusiastic grammar squad that is showing improvement after a 1-1 start. We're also very fortunate to have our dedicated pee wee cheerleading coach Kaitlynn Mitchell returning this year. In January, we will host a co-ed 4th- and 5th-grade scrimmage league, too. It is nice to see the support of parents, family and friends at our games! We're also greatly indebted to Father Currie for his continued support! Happy New Year!

Fall 2011 Programs


Basketball & Cheerleading: Teams are now forming for boys basketball: grammar team grades 7&8, JV & varsity teams grades 9-12; girls basketball: JV team grades 7-9, varsity team grades 10-12; and cheerleading: PeeWee squad grades 1-5, grammar squad grades 6-9. The deadline to enter a team is Nov. 23. Call John Bombaski if you would like to play for St. Ambrose at 754-2330 or the CYO Office at 584-7810 (ext. 340) for information on how to enter a team.
Bantam & Youth Co-Ed Soccer: These two leagues will begin in September. The Bantam League, for ages 4-8, will meet Sundays from noon to 1 p.m. The Co-Ed League is for children in two divisions: 9 and up, 12 and up. For more information, call 584-7800 ext431 or send an email to kdaly@ccbc.net.

Congratulations to our Pee Wee Cheerleading squad who won for "Best Facials and Smiles" at the CYO Cheerleading Competition held March 6 at Binghamton University's Events Center.

St. Ambrose/MHR Red narrowly defeats St. Ambrose Gray/MHR in Championship Game: St. Ambrose/Most Holy Rosary was fortunate enough to be able to enter two varsity teams in the CYO non-parishioner division, and due to the athleticism of the athletes as well as excellent coaching, both made it to the championship game, held Friday, February 18 in the St. Ambrose gym. Appearing before a very enthusiastic crowd, the CYO Championship game was back and forth, with a close score right down to the last second. Collin Elliot scored the game winning basket with 2 seconds remaining on a “Never Say Die” determined drive to the basket and Marshall Tallon contributed 16 points to lead St. Ambrose (Red) to a 64-63 victory over St. Ambrose (Gray) in the Broome County Youth Organization Non-Parishioner championship game at St. Ambrose’s Gymnasium.
Trevor MacDonald had twelve points, Thomas Enfield contributed eleven, and Three Point “Sharp Shooting” Brandon McGoff had ten points for the Red Team. Eric Braxton lead the Gray Team with a game high 19 points, Nate Williams added 16 points, and Nick Weathers contributed 14.
We congratulate both teams and their coaches for a spectacular high powered basketball season. Tony Lindsey, coaching the St. Ambrose/MHR Gray team, produced an intense basketball team, ready to take on any rival. Joe Robinson, coaching the St Ambrose Red team, united a powerhouse of players into a championship team.
A well-deserved thank you goes out to Andy Finucan who took on the challenge of being the moderator of the St. Ambrose program. Without his hard work and dedication to our athletes, we wouldn’t have such a successful CYO program at St. Ambrose/Most Holy Rosary. Andy and his family put many hours behind the scene to keep our program running smoothly and we applaud his efforts. Thanks Andy! Report by Tara Connelly
